This is the third book in the Monument 14 series. The trailer begins with a title/image for each prior book. This engages viewers not familiar with the series and excites existing fans. The focus is the protagonist, Josie. We hear her story in the narrative and read history through the note from Niko. The scene at the fence shows us the chemistry between Niko and Josie, but she is different. While Niko dons protective gear, Josie just looks danger in the face. The trailer works on three levels: we hear Josie, read the note and see her with Niko. The music is eerie and builds to a pounding climax.
In late 2012, Emmy Laybourne signed a deal with Strange Weather Films, giving them the rights to make Monument 14 into a movie. (Strange Weather members Andrew Adamson, Aron Warner, and Jeff Fierson are behind the "Shrek" and "Narnia" movie franchises.)
This is a well-structured, powerful trailer. It briefly shows the prior books to engage viewers not familiar with the series. Clearly not low budget. This trailer not only sells the book, but also hints at the movie series to come.
Contrast this with the tone of the first trailer of the trilogy. Video: http://bt101.info/m141
This trailer displays none of the intensity of Savage Drift. There was no trailer for book 2.
The trailer flashes a pivotal event from each prior book, then moves to Josie, the protagonist. We learn about Josie through her narrative and the scene with the boy putting on a gas mask while she just stands there. The trailer ends with the title, author and trilogy book covers.
Dean, Alex, and the other survivors of the Monument 14 have escaped the disaster zone and made it to the safety of a Canadian refugee camp. Some of the kids have been reunited with their families, and everyone is making tentative plans for the future. And then, Niko learns that his lost love, Josie, has survived!
Or is it?
For Josie, separated from the group and presumed dead, life has gone from bad to worse. Trapped in a terrible prison camp with other exposed O’s and traumatized by her experiences, she has given up all hope of rescue. Meanwhile, scared by the government’s unusual interest in her pregnancy, Astrid—along with her two protectors, Dean and Jake—joins Niko on his desperate quest to be reunited with Josie.
In Monument 14: Savage Drift, the stunningly fierce conclusion to the Monument 14 trilogy, author Emmy Laybourne ups the stakes even higher for a group of kids who have continually survived the unthinkable. Can they do so one last time?
